Purcell's Dido & Aeneas
This will be a concert performance of Purcell's much loved opera, telling the story of the love affair between Dido, queen of Carthage, and the Trojan warrior Aeneas. Dido will be sing by the soprano Rebecca Leggett. while Aeneas sill be sung by our own Sebastian Charlesworth. The continuo will be provided by Laurence Cumming, OBE, accompanied by other early music specialists. We will also be singing a pair of other Purcell choral works, and the orchestra will perform his Chaconne in G minor.

Concert:
Mendelssohn's Elijah
Mendelssohn's only major oratorio, depicting the life of the Old Testament prophet Elijah, was premiered at the Birmingham Festival of 1846. Immediately popular, it has remained a staple part of English choral tradition, although originally written in German.
